Descent of the Ovary • Gubernaculum ovarii: this viscid myxomatous col­

umn develops bilaterally, as in the male, on the medial aspect of the urogenital (U-G) ridge (7th week) below the gonad. It extends caudally in the posterior abdominal wall. In the 8th week, it grows ventrally, skirting the pelvic brim (Figure la), and passes through the inguinal canal, to end in the labial swelling (Figure lb).
