ABSTRACT

Uncer ta in ty is ubiqui tous i n the na tu ra l , engineered, and social environ­ ments. Dev i s ing rationales for exp la in ing i t , strategies for i ts integrat ion into scientific de terminism and mi t iga t ing its consequences has been an active arena of ra t iona l endeavor where many scientific concepts have taken t u r n at fame and infamy. Fa r from being a s tat ic concept, uncertainty is the com­ plement of knowledge, and as thus, cont inual ly adapts itself to knowledge, feeding on its evolut ion to redefine its c l a i m over science.
