ABSTRACT
The planning of a site investigation for piling works is essentially similar to that for shallow foundations, apart from the obvious requirement for greater depth of exploration. The main additional factors that should be considered are the practical aspects of pile installation, including the potential need for a piling working platform, the design for which would be based on the properties of the shallow soils.
