ABSTRACT

In recent years much work has gone into developing stable, low-loss supercon-

ducting cables for carrying large currents. Two commonly used types of cable

are (a) the cable in conduit t y p e 1 - 4 (Figure 10.1) and (b) the Rutherford type

(Figure 10.2). In the former a bundle of transposed wires is inserted into a hollow

support tube (conduit). Cool ing is accomplished by forcing a cryogen through the

interstices of the bundle.
