ABSTRACT

A l l of these factors accounted for the intensive building of industrial nuclear reactors and diffusion plants, carried out in the USSR in the postwar period, for producing fissile materials and using them in nuclear weapons. Three more diffusion plants for enriching uranium were built and put into operation in 1949-1964: in Tomsk-7 at the Siberian Chemical Center, in Angarsk - Angarsk Electrolysis Center, and in Krasnoyarsk-45 - Electrochemical Plant [94]. Thus, the industry producing enriched uranium was dispersed for strategic considerations.
