In the P G U structure the problems of uranium prospecting and mining and metallurgical and chemical production were of top priority.
Development of Production Center No. 6 and USSR Uranium-Bearing Areas
Enterprises of Center No. 6 placed under the control of the PGU started to be developed rapidly. In the fourth quarter of 1945, Plant No. 4 of the People's Commissariat of Nonferrous Metallurgy was reorganized and given an independent budget. To provide the building of uranium mines Nos 11-13, three contingents of builders were set up in the N K V D system mostly consisting of convicts and special settlers.
