ABSTRACT

Systems with Rare Earth Metals of the Yttrium Subgroup, except Ytterbium

The phase transformations during the solid solution decomposition were studied using light

and transmission electron microscopy for most of these systems, M g - Y [254, 255, 267],

M g - G d [269, 271, 280], M g - T b [268], M g - D y [266] and M g - E r [273]. The studies

revealed that there were the same transformations in all the systems at all stages of decom-

position. For the rest of the systems, M g - H o , M g - T m and M g - L u , the structure of the

alloys after the solid solution decomposition was not studied by transmission electron

microscopy, and only the light microscopy method was applied. This method could reveal

only the latest stages of solid solution decomposition. Meanwhile, the l imited data obtained

in the M g - H o , M g - T m and M g - L u by light microscopy confirmed the similarity of phase

transformations in all systems.
