ABSTRACT
Cast alloys are characterized by different mechanical and cast properties. There are sub-
stantial differences in their cost connected with the kind of rare earth metals in their com-
position. M i n i m u m values of the tensile properties of the alloys at room temperature are
presented in Table 49 according to A S T M Standard [417] in comparison with the strongest
cast magnesium alloys of other important systems. A s one can see in Table 49 no alloy with
rare earth metals surpasses the strongest cast alloy Z K 6 1 A of the system M g - Z n - Z r in
Table 48. Chemical composition of the West's commercial magnesium alloys containing rare earth metals for castings [417] and for wrought products (sheet and plate) [418].
