Effect of Cold Deformation on Kinetics of Solid Solution Decomposition and

Accompanying Transformation in Structure

Plastic deformation accelerates decomposition of M g solid solution. In addition to the

noted shift of the strength property maxima to the lower ageing temperatures after cold

deformation (Figure 94) there is the direct proof of this effect obtained by electrical resisti-

vity measurements [239]. They are illustrated by data presented in Figure 95. Samples of

the alloy M g - 2 . 5 mass % N d were solution treated by quenching from 535°C and then

aged at 200°C. Before ageing one of the samples was cold deformed 10% by stretching.
