ABSTRACT

The results reviewed of investigations of magnesium alloys with various rare earth metals

show successive change of their characteristics with the position of R E atoms in the

Periodic Table of the Elements. This regularity is based on the regular change of the

physico-chemical interaction between magnesium and separate rare earth metals, in

particular solubility of them in solid magnesium. Solubility of separate rare earth metals in

solid magnesium changes within quite wide limits and, in accordance with this, mechanical

properties of the alloys can change in quite wide limits at common and elevated

temperatures.
