ABSTRACT
Something about models Models have an important role in life. Writing this sentence, I am of course thinking about beautiful models wearing beautiful dresses but, as we know, models do not represent reality in all respects. So it is with nuclear models. The reality contained in the detail is much too complicated for us to deal with the whole picture when we aim to investigate only one particular aspect. Take a house, for example: city planners need just a simple wooden model of the right size for their planning mock-ups –the interior is of no interest. Architects and heating engineers, on the other hand, need to have models which show the heat capacity and conductivity of the walls. Models come in various sorts depending on what one needs them for.
