ABSTRACT
Old workings exist throughout England, Wales and Scotland, and development of affected areas requires detailed investigation, risk analysis and effective measures to counteract surface subsidence (Healy and Head, 1984). Consolidation of old shallow workings by grout injection into fissures and voids is one of the most widely used geotechnical processes in Britain.
