ABSTRACT
When dealing with structures containing postulated or actual flaws, there is a need for assessing the probability of failure. Obviously this is the case in the design phase and at in-service inspections. However, in the possible event of failure it is also important to reveal the cause and to determine how failure can be avoided in the future.
