ABSTRACT

An important part of any noise-control programme is the establishment of appropriate criteria for the determination of acceptable noise levels and the use of instrumentation to quantify the existing noise for comparison with the criteria and thus determination of the amount of reduction required. The required reduction in turn provides the means for determining the feasibility of alternative proposals for control, and finally the means for estimating the cost of meeting the relevant criteria.
