ABSTRACT

From the field performance of concrete structures outlined and discussed in Chapter 2, the question may be raised why all the offshore concrete structures built for the oil and gas industry in the North Sea during the 1970s and 1980s have performed so much better than all the land-based concrete structures built for the public owners along the Norwegian coastline during the same period. For most of the offshore concrete structures the required service life was only 25 to 30 years, while for all the landbased concrete structures the required service life was more than double.
