ABSTRACT

Greater Lyon is a French urban community of 55 municipalities, 50,000 ha and 1.25 million inhabitants. Two main rivers cross the greater Lyon territory: the Saône River from north to south and the Rhône River from northeast to south. The confluence is located in the municipality of Lyon. The sewer and stormwater drainage systems are combined in the hilly western suburbs and in the centre between the two rivers and separate in the eastern suburbs on the left bank of the Rhône River (Figure 23.1).
