ABSTRACT

A building code is a document containing standardized requirements for the design

and the erection of most building types. These codes regulate the building life from

the conception to the maintenance, in order to protect health, safety and welfare of

the occupants. Codes address all aspects of construction, including structural

integrity, fire resistance, lighting, electrical and heating plants, air conditioning,

energy conservation, plumbing, sanitary facilities, ventilation, as well as the correct

use of construction materials.
