ABSTRACT
As a fundamental principle, it is essential that such a critical piece of infrastructure should set as a general design target the achievement of a robustness and performance level at least as high if not higher than that internationally achieved for other such key elements of transportation infra structure. In other words, the bridge has to be at least as safe, functional, reliable, durable and efficient, as other major bridge crossings built recently throughout the world.
