ABSTRACT

As an introduction to the use of numerical interpolation consider the calibration of

an orifice plate, a common device for measuring flow in pipes. It fits into a pipe

between a pair of flanges and, by constricting the flow and generating turbulence,

leads to a drop in pressure that can be measured by reading the pressure head

upstream and downstream of the plate. A plate, and a pipe with a plate fitted are

shown in Figure 8.1.
