ABSTRACT
The normal or Gaussian distribution is one that most people will have heard of. It is
widely used and suitable for a wide range of situations. For this reason it is also
widely abused, and may inhibit the use of other more suitable probability
distributions. Nevertheless it is discussed here together with a near relation, the log-
normal distribution.
