ABSTRACT

A number of techniques have been used on image texture analysis for feature extraction (Tuceryan and Jain, 1998). These techniques share a high computational cost, mostly due to the use of sophisticated formulas and the high resolution of images they are applied to. However, a great number of real applications require a quick response and demand the computation of textural features at real-time. In order to accomplish this, we propose in this paper the use of high-performance emerging architectures like graphics processors (GPUs).
