ABSTRACT

This is not a very long chapter, not because aggregates are not an important component of concrete, but rather because most of the general rules that have long been in use will continue to apply. Aggregates will have to:

• be clean; • have a grain size distribution within accepted gradation limits; • be non-reactive with the cement alkalis. However, if they are potentially

reactive, a special low alkali cement or a blended cement containing some fly ash or slag will have to be used.
