ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the elastic problem of deflected plates and shells will be presented. The study of shells having double curvature also includes the case of shells of revolution, loaded both symmetrically or otherwise with respect to the axis of symmetry. This study will then be particularized to the specific, but, from the technical standpoint, highly significant cases of thin shells of revolution, circular plates, and cylindrical shells. In this context, reference will also be made to the problem of pressurized vessels having a cylindrical shape and flat or spherical caps. Finally, the problem of axisymmetrical three-dimensional bodies, loaded either symmetrically or otherwise with respect to the axis of symmetry, will be dealt with.
