Where W is the maximum width of crack, in mm, fs is the steel stress at the load for which the crack width is to be determind, in N/mm , dc is the thickness of concrete cover measured from tension face to center of bar closest to that face, in mm, A is the concrete area surrounding one bar, equal to total effective tension area of concrete surrounding reinforcement and having same centroid, divided by number of bars, mm2, β is the ratio of distances from tension face and from steel centroid to neutral axis, 1.2 may be used for beams.
