ABSTRACT

The depth of penetration achieved with all the materials is seen in Figure 7 to be remarkably similar, except for the combination material containing siloxane and acrylic. It is thought that the problem lies not with the siloxane but with the acrylic. It has a much larger molecule size and cannot penetrate far and prevents the siloxane from penetrating too. On the other hand the Dekguard is a two coat system with the first coat of silane which can penetrate before the second coat of acrylic is applied on top. This may have relevance for the longevity of a system when its penetrating ability could ensure a longer working life.
