ABSTRACT
An examination of table 2 reveals that the average damage to bars of any shape and size was 7.8 defects per metre. The 16mm bars sustained an average of 9.9 defects/m; the 12mm bars sustained 6.8 defects/m. This level of damage is clearly considerably in excess of that which is permitted for bars leaving the factory.1
