Fully bonded membranes with pinholes or which had been damaged by hot aggregate had a continuous transmission of water with time. Where membranes were debonded and punctured water rapidly flowed beneath them and spread out across the surface of the concrete. Some membranes were partially self sealing or were sealed by deposits in the water or by aggregate particles. This reduced the volume of water passing through the membrane (figure 7).
