ABSTRACT

Half of the building on sea side was coated with acrylic rubber type coating, and another half being left as uncoated. This coating is described in JIS A 6021 (Roof coatings for water proofing), consisting of primer, base coat and top coat. The acrylic rubber contains 54% of acrylic polymer by weight and the rest comprises inorganic filler

and pigment. The acrylic polymer consists of rubber like, bridged 2-ethylhexyl acrylate. Total thickness of the coating becomes 1.1mm and this coating is considered to meet the requirements for ideal waterproofing; good bond to substrate, and low permeability to chlorides and moisture under service conditions, especially temperature extremes, crack bridging and aging.
