ABSTRACT

Dr Chris Oosthuizen is Deputy Chief Engineer: Civil Design in charge of Dam Safety at the Department of Water Affairs, South Africa. He has for a number of years been actively involved in all facets of dam engineering, in particular the behaviour of and risk based safety evaluation of dams. Mr Piet A Naude is Control Industrial Technician: Dam Safety in charge of all Instrumentation in the Department of Water Affairs, South Africa. He is project leader for the evaluation of various coating systems in the Theewaterskloof Tunnel. Mr A George van Heerden is a Senior Industrial Technician (Civil) who participated as the Department of Water Affairs’ observer during application and evaluation of the various coating systems.
