ABSTRACT

The concrete deck is composed of primary beams and secondary beams with rectangular sections and a slab of 18 cmts. It is located in Rome, near the Old Theater of Massenzio in the Roman Forum, and it was constructed about thirty years ago to protect some historical escavations. During the years, humidity and carbonatation have attacked the concrete and the lower reinforcement has been highly diminished in section. This fact together with the circumstances to guarantee a higher live load on the deck have forced to repair and to reinforce the deck. The technology chosen is to make a new concrete deck on the upper side which substitutes partatially old concrete deck and to use unbonded external tendons for the primary beams to substitute deteriorated steel. At present the application is under construction and has been chosen due to its major efficiency and easier mounting in comparison to other reparation tecniques like beton plaque.
