ABSTRACT
Biographical notes Dr Japie E Krüger joined the CSIR in 1949. After heading the Inorganic Materials Division of the National Building Research Institute from 1981 to 1987, he is now a project leader in the Building Materials Technology Programme of the Division of Building Technology of the CSIR. He has for many years been involved in research into inorganic building materials, notably blastfurnace slag and fly ash. Dr Brian G Lunt, a registered professional engineer, is a project leader in the Engineering Structures Programme of the Division of Building Technology. He joined the CSIR in 1959 and has worked mainly on the structural behaviour of reinforced and prestressed concrete, with a special interest in prestressing steel, reinforcement detailing, shear strength of flat slabs, structural design against the effect of weapons, and novel building systems.
