Compression t e s t s on s h o r t l e n g t h s o f s t e e l members a r e an e s t a b l i s h e d s u b s i d i a r y t e s t c o n d u c t e d i n s u p p o r t o f t h e l a r g e - s c a l e t e s t i n g o f components e.g. columns, and co m p l e t e s t r u c t u r a l a s s e m b l i e s e.g. frames. The o b j e c t i v e i s t o p r o v i d e b a s i c i n f o r m a t i o n on t h e b e h a v i o u r o f t h e c r o s s - s e c t i o n u n d e r c o m p r e s s i v e l o a d i n g . T h i s may t h e n be used t o supplement m a t e r i a l p r o p e r t y d a t a o b t a i n e d f r o m t h e c o n v e n t i o n a l t e n s i l e t e s t (1) when i n t e r p r e t i n g t h e r e s u l t s f r o m t h e l a r g e s c a l e t e s t .
