ABSTRACT
There are two reasons for evaluating a bridge, either the loads are increasing or the bridge is deteriorating-sometimes both.
The only loads over which mankind can exercise control are loads caused by traffic. But unfortunately for the bridge engineer there are all sorts of pressures to keep increasing the allowable traffic loads.
