ABSTRACT

A new Additional Description Rule A5 has been inserted to deal with fittings to relined water mains in the expanded Class 7. The previous A5 has been renumbered to A6 and a new A7 is included and refers to valves and fittings also in Class Y. Measurement Rules M2 The measurement of straight specials needs careful consideration of where and when

they should be taken. They should not be measured where the length of the pipe is not a critical factor. For instance the Engineer would never expressly require the last pipe entering a surface water manhole to be a specific length, although invariably the last pipe in this case would be a short length . On the other hand ductile iron pipework in large pumping stations is more often than not designed in detail and all the pipes and fittings are designed to specific lengths. In this case any short lengths of pipe would be expressly required and therefore measurable. The main criterion is that straight specials are those which are designed to be a specific length and are shown as such (see also Definition Rule D2).
