ABSTRACT
The behaviour of square metal tubes, buried with a relatively shallow soil cover and subjected to a Static overpressure on the surface, was examined in a series of model tests supervised by the author during the late 1970s. Although less structurally efficient than the circular tubes discussed in earlier chapters, there are a number of advantages in the on-site construction of tunnels made from an assembly of flat sheets.
