ABSTRACT
Analytical solution procedures are either unavailable or inefficient for many structural engineering problems whose parameters are random variables or functions. Some of these cases are listed in Chapter 6; they especially concern non linear (in geometry and/or material) problems, dynamic analyses and damage accumulation. More generally, probabilistic closed-form solutions are never available when the structural problem must be approached by numerical, rather than analytical, procedures.
