ABSTRACT

The incorporation of uniformly d i s t r i b u t e d and randomly oriented short f i b r e s i n cement-based materials decreases the workability, and possibly increases the void content i n the composite. The decrease in workability i s b a s i c a l l y due to the surface area and e s p e c i a l l y the shape of the f i b r e s i n r e l a t i o n to the other p a r t i c l e s i n the composite The f l o w a b i l i t y and compactibility c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s of f i b - re concrete mixes can be greatly improved by the addition of l i q u i d admixtures which would reduce the i n t e r p a r t i c l e f r i c t i o n .
