ABSTRACT

Abstract I t i s know that t r i a x i a l t e s t s give u s e f u l information on the c o n s t i t u t i v e law of asphalt mixtures even i f i t has been shown th a t t h i s i s only so i n p a r t i c u l a r c o n d i t i o n s of s t r e s s and s t r a i n . I f the r e s u l t s of these t e s t s are t o be extended with even the minimum degree of r e l i a b i l i t y t o r e a l s i t u a t i o n s i t i s necessary t o use parameters which are at l e a s t independent of the chosen system of coordinates. In other words, the parameters should be t i e d t o the s t r e s s and s t r a i n constants. As numerical r e s u l t s are a f f e c t e d by d i f f e r e n t f a c t o r s t i e d t o the c o n d i t i o n s the t r i a x i a l t e s t i s c a r r i e d out i n and the nature of the aggregate, some parameters were kept constant ( t e s t temperature, load a p p l i c a t i o n speed, type of bitumen, l i t h i c elements, etc.) while others were v a r i e d ( l a t e r a l pressure and the quantity and arrangement of spaces i n the s e a l c o a t ) .
