ABSTRACT

STOPING Conventional deep mining, of mineral vein or any shape of orebody, creates large open underground voids known as stopes. Subsidence threat is localized, but may totally sterilize narrow strips of ground directly over the mines; a wider potential hazard is failure of hanging walls left above inclined stopes.
