ABSTRACT
Both the global characteristics (effects of the discretization of the domain ) and the local characteristics of continuous fields (representation of individual values from the range ) were discussed in previous chapters as a theoretical background for digital representation of continuous fields. This chapter will now step back from the example of continuous fields to a more general view of spatial information and explore possible implementation strategies for the concept of virtual data sets introduced in 3.5.
