ABSTRACT

The concept of ‘time’ is studied in various fields, such as philosophy, psychology, linguistics, artificial intelligence (AI) and database management systems (DBMS). The research framework is called temporal reasoning. In recent years, the necessity to include temporal information into databases has provided different models for temporal databases. Researchers have been examining aspects of temporal reasoning, temporal propositions and temporal query languages. However, researchers from various fields concerned with this topic have found it difficult to become familiar with the work of others. Bolour et al. (1982) presented a survey on time from the different fields as a first step towards an increased communication and exchange of ideas about information processing and time.
