Phase separated composite films were obtained for Cu co-deposited with C,,. TEM morphology images and electron diffraction patterns showed that metal nanocrystallites were well dispersed on the C,, polycrystalline matrix. However, the volume fraction of the metals as well as the grain size of the metal particles can be controlled by adjusting the deposition rates of C,, and Cu. Raman-back scattering spectra of Cu/C60 as-grown films have been measured to see if any charge transfer from the metal to C,, occurs. The typical spectra of Cu/Cso films together with a pure C,, film are shown in figure 1. The measurements were performed at 150 K and the laser power was below 50 mw/cm2 in order to minimise the noise and the effect of photo-polymerization.
