ABSTRACT
Directly shaping the loop gain to obtain desired properties is really at the heart of what is now called "classical control". Bode, Nichols and others developed graphical methods, and special diagrams to handle this in an efficient way for SISO systems. The means for directly manipulating the loop gain are the lead-and lag-compensators in basic control theory.
