ABSTRACT

Patients with cerebrovascular disease who have suffered TIAs or strokes are at higher risk of suffering further cerebrovascular events. Preventive efforts aimed at these patients include the same measures indicated for primary prevention (risk factor control) and in addition, administration of antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants and surgery. We will discuss the justification for continuing the search of antiplatelet agents and the status of development of lesser known antiplatelet agents useful in the secondary prevention of stroke.
