ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to give the reader some elements in order to understand several aspects in hardware, software and network architecture for the applications dealing with urban planning. Indeed, the evolution of computers, and especially in the domain of telecommunications have allowed the possibility of novel architectures which are interesting for urban planning, and the more important appear to be the co-operative aspects. Successively, detailed information will be given for different computer architectures such as:

• client-server • federation of several information systems • interoperability • architecture for groupware • datawarehousing.
