ABSTRACT

Perhaps the rather unexpected title for this chapter should be explained without delay. Through my lifetime, in addition to my meanderings in medical physics, I have been a loyal (I hope) member of the Methodist Church. When a minister of that church decides to retire from active work, he applies for the privilege of ‘sitting down’; this quaint phrase even appears in the official documentation. As my professional activities were winding down and my meanderings coming to an end, I felt that ‘sitting down’ was an appropriate description of my situation. I had meandered long, hard and far, and maybe should now relax.
