ABSTRACT
Abstract. The paper starts with a discussion of methods for the analysis of smart structures. A method is presented which does not require special finite elements for the analysis of structures with piezoelectric devices but which uses conventional finite elements. This method can also be adapted to structures with integrated magnetostrictive materials.
