ABSTRACT

The treatment planning process follows several phases. The timing of the progression between these phases and the actual insertion procedure varies with the particular procedure. A common time course follows:

(l) Preprocedure imaging to determine a preliminary target. While these images would be best made with the patient in the exact position as for the brachytherapy procedure, this often proves infeasible, and these images serve as interim guides to the target volume. In the absence of images, information from physical examination provides information on the size and extent of the target volume.
