Thereareseveralmethodspresentlybeingusedforairmassflowmeasurement.The mostcommonmethodistheuseofahotwire(sometimesknownashotflume).Thismethod worksmeasuringtherateofcoolingofahotwireplacedintheairflow.Thisisachievedby measuringthecurrentrequiredtokeepthewireataconstanttemperature.Otherolder methodsincludethemeasurementofmassflowbymeasuringtherotationofamechanical flapplacedintheflow.Themaindisadvantagesofallthecurrentmethodsisthatnonecan measurethereverseflowsthatcanbepresentandnoneareresponsiveenoughtochangesin flowrate.
