ABSTRACT: Sol-gel hydrolysis and polymerisation oftetraethoxy silane (TEOS) in the presence of rationally designed self assembling positively charged peptide fibrils leads to the formation of silica nanotubes. The nanotubes possess a central pore of -3.5nm diameter determined by the external diameter of the peptide fibril template, an external tube diameter of -20nm and a length of several hundred nm.
